Frient Motion Sensor Pro

A review of Friend's motion sensor.

We've had quite a few motion sensors on our blog, but we're still missing one. And that is the Motion Sensor Pro from Friend. Friend is a Danish manufacturer that has not been making Smart Home products for very long. They are making good progress because they have already launched quite a few products.

They mainly make products with the wireless communication protocol Zigbee. This protocol is mainly known for lamps (including Philips Hue, Ikea, INNR) but more and more different types of products are coming onto the market. This is of course very nice because it creates more competition and this ultimately benefits the price.

Motion sensor, what is that?

With a motion sensor you can, surprisingly, detect movement. He can detect this movement because a PIR is built in that can detect temperature differences between the environment and the object. So imagine that you walk past it, you are warmer than the environment, so this is detected and a signal sent to the controller.

Motion sensors are mainly used in an alarm system, but because you connect it to your Smart Home system, you can do a lot more with it. Think of the automatic switching on of your lighting. You walk into your hall and your system immediately turns on the lamp, it couldn't be more beautiful.

But also consider seeing whether you are at home or away to automatically switch devices on or off.

This motion sensor is 70 x 70 x 21 mm, which does not make it super compact, but you can still hang it invisibly. This hanging is easy thanks to the supplied bracket which you can attach with screws or the double-sided sticker. The motion detector automatically sticks to the bracket because it is magnetic. You can also put it down with another bracket.

It is finished with white plastic and weighs almost nothing and is powered by two AA batteries. In addition to the detection, it also has a built-in temperature and light sensor. It is for sale 34.95 euros.
