Qubino Luxy Smart Switch

Conclusion:

It is nice to see that Qubino keeps coming up with new innovative products. This certainly applies to the Luxy Smart Switch because no such product existed yet. With this switch you can of course turn the connected lamp on or off. But he can do more, because an LED lamp is built in behind the switch. You can change these colors, there is no less than 16 million colors to choose from. The LED can also be dimmed.

In addition to these colors, there are 4 scenarios available:
- Ocean (Blue fade color)
- Sunrise (Yellow/red fade color)
- Nature (Green fade color)
- Rainbow (all colors of the rainbow)

You can use this switch well as a night light or as an alarm lamp if, for example, a smoke detector goes off somewhere. The LED gives a lot of light to illuminate your bedroom, for example. The Luxy button is touch sensitive and made of transparent plastic. The whole looks chic. Unfortunately, you cannot install the Luxy in your existing switchgear. So you can only use it "stand alone".

You can view the current consumption and total consumption of the connected lamp. Speaking of connecting. You need a blue wire (N) at the switch. This is not present in all flush-mounted boxes, but can often be pulled to the box. Also keep in mind that your flush-mounted box must be at least 50mm deep (Qubino even recommends 60mm).

It works wirelessly via the Z-Wave Plus protocol.

We have tested the Luxy Smart Switch with various smart home controllers. The results of this are variable, so he worked as it should with Homey and all bells and whistles were present. With the Fibaro Home Center 2 we were able to change the colors, dim them and operate the connected lamp, but the feedback did not go as it should. The same applies to Domoticz. We had several problems with HASS, Vera and Zipato.

With all controllers it was not possible to start the preset scenes, this is a shame. Of course you can put together your own scene. Which is of course much more fun.

There is clearly still work to be done by Qubino to get this switch working properly. Qubino indicates that it is in talks with the various manufacturers for better support.

During testing I sometimes had some trouble getting the Luxy added. This was partly due to my being turned upside down but also because the "buttons" were not responding. So patience is a virtue.

Finally, I would like to mention the price of € 149.90. This is quite substantial, but on the other hand, you will not clutter your entire house with this switch.

So: Don't like that boring switch and really want something high-tech? Then the Luxy Smart Switch is for you.
