Xiaomi Mi Home

Conclusion:

With the Mi Home, Xiaomi has put down a great home automation package that uses the Zigbee protocol to communicate. The sensors stand out because they are super small. The prices of both the controller and the sensors are a real bargain. For example, you already have a door sensor for € 9. The competition cannot compete with this, especially if you compare this with Z-Wave sensors which already cost € 50.00. Now it has to be said that Z-Wave devices can often be set much more and there are several sensors in one device. The Fibaro Motion Sensor also has a tamper alarm, temperature sensor and shock sensor. Of course you can live with this, but not being able to adjust the sensitivity, for example, is quite annoying.

Creating scenes (rules) is user-friendly and everyone can find his way in this. It should be mentioned that making more complex rules is difficult due to, for example, the lack of variables and an "OR" function. The scence's supplied as standard are a nice start for making rules.

Of course there are also negative points, so when installing the APP you have to release half your phone, which does not really benefit your privacy. Another point is the lack of the Dutch language and if you can speak English well, the translation is often not in order and a lot is missing. This way you will receive a notification on your telephone entirely in Chinese, which you will not understand. This product is not yet 100% suitable for sale outside of China.

Another point to keep in mind is that only Xiaomi products work on the gateway. Zigbee is sometimes true, but Xiamo has thrown its own sauce over it. Another exception to this is the Philips HUE, which should also work (not tested itself).

For the rest, it is good to report that only 32 sensors can be connected to the Gateway. You can, however, connect multiple Gateways together.

I have a bit of a double feeling about this product. On the one hand it is great, but on the other hand there are so many points that it is difficult to draw a final conclusion. A point is beyond doubt. If you care a lot about your privacy, this product is not for you.

You can also start using Xiaomi's products separately via, for example, the Homey. This is currently still in Beta status as soon as this feature is officially released, we will also test the individual products on this controller.

This controller (set) is for sale between 50 and 75 euros.

So: Do you want to be in the front row for a dime? And do you accept the above disadvantages? Then the Xiaomi Mi Home is the product for you.
